About The Artist

Award winning artist, Lori Hess, is a Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and a past member of the Ohio Watercolor Society. She has studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and with international artists Charles Reid, Judi Betts, Jean Grastorf, Joseph Fettingis, Jean Uhl Spicer and Ted Nuttall. Lori has recently relocated with her husband to the Pacific Northwest.

“The entire process of painting, from concept to completion, is compelling and entirely enjoyable. Very few other activities are as engrossing and rewarding as making art. When something in my life is bothering me, if I go into the studio, it recedes. The creative process brings me back into balance.”

Lori's paintings have been accepted into national and international juried exhibitions. Most recently, The 47th Annual Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition 2020 (Juror Award), The 1st Annual Women in Watercolor International Juried Competition (Honorable Mention), The 46th Annual Alaska Watercolor Society Juried Watercolor Exhibition (First Place), The Northwest Watercolor Society International Open 2019, Pikes Peak Watercolor Society International Watermedia 2019 and the 43rd Transparent Watercolor Society of America Exhibition 2019.

Lori has taught watercolor painting in private and group class settings as well as art workshops on exploring watercolors and color theory. She has also been a frequent guest artist for schools and art clubs. Please contact Lori for more information on her classes and portrait commissions.
